Greve in Chianti and its Cellars
A day of art, culture, wine and delicious food.
The tour starts in the morning with departure from La Paggeria to Bargino, where we will visit the Antinori winery which opened on October 25, 2012. The winery is a tribute to the land of Chianti Classico by the Antinori family, a confirmation of the historical link with their homeland.
The winery is unique in Italy, built with local materials and with great respect for the environment and the Tuscan landscape.
The winery was designed both for production as well as to give the broader audience of wine lovers the chance to come into direct contact with the production philosophy of the family, offering a chance to see how a wine is produced, from the vineyard to the bottle, passing through the paths of vinification and aging.
After the visit to Antinori winery, we will move on to Greve in Chianti, situated between the old Chiantigiana road and the higher Valdarno, which is the main center of Chianti. We will visit the characteristic Piazza Giovanni da Verrazzano, where a major agricultural market takes place every year. In the beautiful town of Greve, we will also visit the Cantine of Greve in Chianti, one of the largest and most important community wine shop in Italy dating back to around 1800. The wine bar/restaurant is located in the underground basement of the old cellars, under the town of Greve in Chianti, in what was the aging cellar of one of the largest wine cellars in Chianti.
Another winery that can be visited is the Castello di Verrazzano, where it is possible to visit the historic cellars still in use today. During the visit, strolling through the gardens of the late Renaissance villa you can discover the history of the great navigator Giovanni da Verrazano and glimpse the boars bred in the surrounding woods. The visit always ends with a guided tasting of classic wines, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and Vin Santo accompanied by traditional almond biscotti.
The itinerary includes:
- Tour with car and driver
- Visit to Antinori Winery or to Castello di Verrazzano, according to availability of guided tours
- Visit to the Cantine di Greve in Chianti with wine tastings of Tuscan wines (wine card included)
- Return to La Paggeria
